Diane von Furstenberg, since entering the fashion industry in the early seventies, has always promoted the empowerment of women. And now she is taking her mission a step further with the DVF awards - an annual ceremony which aims to recognize women whose leadership, skills and vision have had a positive impact on the lives of other women around the world, WWD reports.

"My mission in life is to empower women," the designers and president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America said. "I do it through my work, through my mentoring and through philanthropy."
Each honoree will receive $50,000 aimed to help them sustain and expand on their humanitarian efforts. The first DVF Awards are scheduled to take place at the United Nations on March 13th, and will honor four women. Wow, is there anything Diane von Furstenberg can't do?
